Ex-opposition leader dies at 77

Park Sang-cheonBy Kim Hyo-jinFormer opposition leader Park Sang-cheon died of cancer Tuesday. He was 77.Born in Goheung, South Jeolla Province, Park began his career as a judge before working as a prosecutor for about 20 years. He entered politics in 1987 and a year later was elected as a lawmaker in his hometown. Park earned fame after working as a spokesman for an opposition party led by late former President Kim Dae-jung.With Kim’s trust, he was tapped as the first justice minister under the Kim administration who took office from 1998 to 2003. The veteran five-term lawmaker served as head of the Democratic Party in 2003 when the party split from the Uri Party, and secured the post again when they united back in 2008.In 2012, ahead of the 19th general election, he left politics, saying, “It is time to give a chance to young politicians.”Park is survived by his wife and three children.

The three will actively mentor students who join the program.As part of the counseling, the 28-year-old fighter Kwon said he will teach MMA to juveniles.“By learning MMA, they will recognize there are many fighters much better than them, and learn manners that they ought not take swings at anyone. She regretted not keeping a promise to have a meal together, and urged netizens to visit a memorial altar in Dongsuwon General Hospital in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, to “wish him well in the afterlife.”The band made its debut as 6.August in 2002, and changed its name to B.August in 2004. Kim Soo-haengBy Park Si-sooKorea’s leading Marxist economist Kim Soo-haeng, who translated the legendary economic book “Capital: Critique of Political Economy” into Korean in 1990, died of a heart attack in the United States, Saturday, his associates said Monday. He was 73.“He left for the U.S. on July 28 to see his two sons who lived there and died of heart attack on Saturday,” said the Korean Association for Political Economy in a statement. The late scholar served as the association’s chairman. “He was healthy. She thought these lifeless, worthlessly abandoned objects were just like her because she was struggling to find her identity while working for a living as an artist at the time. To enliven these objects, she picked up the buttons, pins and thread and began making a figure of a Buddha, a temple, a bird and other designs. “When we lose a tiny button, we realize that for the first time how precious it is. Super Junior entertainer to serve military

Singer and actor Choi Si-won will say goodbye to his legion of fans when he begins military service later this year.Choi, from idol boy band Super Junior, will serve in the military for about two years.The star, 28, will join after finishing his new TV series ― tentatively titled “She was Pretty” ― that will air on MBC in September.
