Accessorizing Your Business Attire - Part II

A scene from “Kingsman: The Secret Service” ©20th Century Fox KoreaBy Todd SampleA leather clutch © Alan’sUmbrellas © Edward MaxOne of the signs of a successful business wardrobe is that the separate parts which make up the entire ensemble, especially the accessories, are in tune with the overall look. For example, a thick wool tie shouldn’t be worn with a summer seersucker suit, while slipping on a pair of casual loafers to wear with a suit should also be avoided. While riding on the subway the other day, I was pleasantly surprised to see a well dressed young man who had obviously paid close attention to the details of his outfit from the suit, shirt, and tie he had chosen to the polka dot socks he was wearing on his feet.If I could have made just one suggestion to him, however, I would have recommended that he leave the shoulder bag he was carrying at home, as it was the kind of oddly colored bag one receives for free when attending a seminar or conference, complete with the name of the conference on the side in big letters.Other than being pra

SPA brands & youth's luxury lifestyle

By Victoria KimThe term “SPA” or “fast fashion” was discussed and surveyed in many ways after UNIQLO, H&M, and ZARA saw big success. SPA stands for specialty retailer of private label apparel.Except for UNIQLO, other SPA or fast fashion brands were all from Western countries with their pattern, color, silhouette and size based on Western culture. Yet it was still popular among Asian consumers. It seems that the SPA trend diminished among fashion retailers. However, it reappeared in a different way in the Asian region.Korean actress Kang Sora, whose popularity catapulted since the recent cable TV series “Misaeng,” became the youth generation’s new icon not just because of the acting but more so with her firm fashion identity. She wore cheap clothes from fast fashion brands and viewers praised her for having a definite concept in style, not swayed by the brand name or value. Most consumers of SPA and fast fashion brands are composed of the younger generation in their teens to early 20s.Youth had until now meant physical age but now it means &

Eat, swim, and love

Ocean Pool, Mulia ResortWays to enjoy honeymoon at Bali’s largest resortBy Jun Kyoung-wooA honeymoon is as sweet as honey. It is a trip where you share love with your special other. What you’ve seen isn’t as important as who you’re with. Where you’ve stayed for the most romantic time of your life is the most important as you get only one honeymoon per marriage.“Where are you going for honeymoon?”This is the number one question people ask at a wedding to a newlywed couple. I don’t know why they’re so curious about this but that’s what people ask.The usual answers are the Maldives, Fiji or Cancun. There are seldom couples who have planned a real “trip” to Europe. Sometimes a tightly scheduled trip such as Incheon-Narita-Las Vegas-Los Angeles-Cancun comes as a welcoming choice for those who like to boast on social media. But these aren’t actually correct answers. The real destinations newlyweds end up in are hotels or resorts. The Oasis Pool, The MuliaBali, an island of resortsThe sea off Bali is beautiful

Then, now and next- Evolving honeymoon trends

Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort and Spa, MaldivesBy Yun Suh-youngA honeymoon is the first step newlyweds take as husband and wife, which means stepping off on the right foot during this trip is extremely important for the rest of the marriage.Until now, the most crucial factor couples had considered was "where" they should go for honeymoon. But as time evolved, younger generation of Internet-accustomed couples with definitive taste started searching for ways to best spend the time together. Hence, "how" to spend the honeymoon has become more important for couples these days.Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort and Spa, MaldivesSelecting from the menu - the usualThe trend in honeymoons, naturally, follows the trend in travel.Until about a decade ago, the usual form of honeymoon trips were package tours where a travel agent arranges the transportation, food and lodging as well as the tour schedule - all at an inclusive price. As much as the trips were ordered from the menu, there weren't that many choices for couples other than the most popular destinations that, statistically, wer

Portuguese soul food

Piri Piri ChickenTaverna de PortugalBy Yun Suh-youngFrancesinhaExterior of Taverna de PortugalInside of the restaurantEveryone has their own type of soul food. This restaurant was recently added to my list of go-to places when I need food for comfort. The Portuguese chef’s food delights the palate and soothes the soul.Hidden away in an alleyway in Sangsu-dong, Seoul, the Portuguese restaurant greets you with exotic Portuguese music. The semi-basement restaurant is small, with only about seven tables, exuding a cozy atmosphere.Portuguese chef Agostinho da Silva and his wife run the place. Chef Da Silva had worked for over 15 years in five-star hotels such as Four Seasons, The Savoy and The Dorchester in London. The couple moved to Korea in 2010 and opened the restaurant in November 2013. At the time, it was the first Portuguese restaurant to open Seoul. It still is one of the very few that serve Portuguese dishes. The store’s top two dishes are the famous “Francesinha” and “Piri Piri Chicken.”Francesinha is traditional Portuguese hot grilled sandwich

I can surely say couples will not regret choosing Cancun for their honeymoon destination despite the distance from Korea.Cancun has world class resorts. The unique feature of these is that they are all-inclusive, with unlimited food and beverages included in the room rate. Couples can also enjoy breakfast-in-bed as room service is mostly included too. Early treatment best remedy for joint disorder

By Song Sang-HoIt is generally perceived that degenerative arthritis is a disorder suffered mostly by the elderly. However, according to the data on the total number of the patients with degenerative arthritis compiled by the National Health Insurance Corporation of Korea in 2013, one out of 10 patients were under the age of 40 and this proportion is incrementally increasing.I have also noticed that patients visiting our hospital due to degenerative arthritis are getting noticeably younger in comparison to the past. While older people accounted for the most, if not all, of patients visiting orthopedic clinics with symptoms in the past, the number of younger patients seeking treatment for this disorder has increased substantially. The knee is the area damaged most frequently by younger patients due to meniscal tearing arising from over-exercising or injuries. If treatment is delayed or left unattended, early stage degenerative arthritis may occur.A meniscal tear easily occurs when the knee joint is twisted during strenuous and extreme exercise or if an excessive burden is exerted on the

The twins' first day of preschool

By Jane HanIf you’ve been following this column, you know well that I’ve been pretty much all about potty training for the past month. Well, here’s something new ― the twins have started preschool. Yes, school.Sound abrupt, doesn’t it? It was abrupt. Some moms contemplate for days and stay up nights thinking again and again whether, when and where to send their children to school. Me, it was pretty much an over-the-weekend decision.I had to suddenly let go of my nanny who helped take care of the girls for the past five months they’ve been in Korea. Why I had to let go of her so suddenly is a subject that needs a separate entry of its own, so I won’t go into that. There was no way on earth I’d be able to look after all three girls all by myself so instead of hiring a new nanny, I thought, why not school?Private ``play school’’ was the best option for my twins. It’s a bit pricey (1 million won per child per month), but there’s no waiting list and the student-teacher ratio seemed most ideal.I narrowed my list to two potentia
