Living design trends

IKEABy Yun Suh-youngThe Seoul Living Design Fair, held annually in Korea's capital city, this year showcased ways to style home interiors in a way that best shows off individual styles and hobbies. The fair was held at the COEX in Samseong-dong, southern Seoul, from April 1 to 5.Evolving use of homesWhereas home decoration was pushed aside as secondary to purchasing a larger home for older generations, young people these days are more active about decorating their homes in their own way. Even a small house can be beautiful and stylish, displaying the characteristics of the owner. "Home decoration is a new kind of enjoyment," says Kang Seung-tae, a 32-year-old male who lives on his own and is planning to stylishly decorate his home when he moves into his new house in May."I didn't care about decorating when I came into my current house, but now seeing so many homes decorated beautifully, I also want to dress up my new house. It's self-satisfaction."Dansk - Papa ChairDansk - Y ChairThe home is no longer just a functional space in which to eat, sleep and rest- it is also becoming a

Others are in places like Beverly Hills, Miami, Hawaii and Tokyo.Wolfgang's Steakhouse was established in 2004 by Wolfgang Zwiener, who had worked for 40 years as head waiter at the Peter Luger Steakhouse, a time-honored steakhouse in the United States. Shirt styling for savvy dressers

© MedialogBy Todd SampleToday's dapper dresser has an appreciation for the details in his wardrobe which elevate him to a level of sartorial savvy. When having a tailored suit made, for example, certain tweaks to the basic design can make the garment unique to the wearer, such as varying the width of the lapel or the angle of the pockets, the thread color for the button holes, the width of cuffs on the pants and the extent to which the pant legs are tapered toward the ankle.Moving one layer of fabric closer to the skin, shirts, like suits, can also be styled in a way that fits the wearer's body shape and personal style. Not too long ago, the vast majority of collar styles on men's shirts were limited to a standard-width pointed collar for more formal occasions, and a button-down collar for casual wear. Today, collar styles are as diverse in width and style as ever before. From narrow spreads just wide enough for a four-in-hand necktie knot to collars with an extreme cutaway spread in which the tips of the collar (which usually point downward) point straight to the shoulders or even

Exploring two of Jeju's newest hotels

SkyfinityBy Yun Suh-youngJeju Island, one of the most-frequented travel destinations among locals and foreigners, offers great weather and picturesque scenery during the day. But there are not many choices for entertainment at night. However, if you are staying at either Kensington Jeju or Shilla Stay, the two newest hotels on Jeju, you need not worry about boredom at night. In fact, you might end up enjoying a better nightlife inside the hotels than outside.Kensington Jeju - family/ couplesMidori SourThe Kensington Jeju, a marine-concept resort that opened in the island's Jungmoon region in June, has an amazing outdoor rooftop infinity pool, "Skyfinity," which is best enjoyed at night.Skyfinity is the first and only rooftop infinity pool in the country and has received wide praise from visitors since it opened last summer. The rooftop pool area consists of the 25-meter main pool, a seven-meter Jacuzzi, a Finnish sauna sky cabin and sun beds, some of which are on the water. As night advances and the sky turns charcoal black, the "Bubble Party" begins at the Club House next to the pool.

Be wary of avascular necrosis for hip pain

By Song Sang-ho Severe cases of coxarthropathy are frequently observed among patients who visit hospital assuming what they have is a simple case of hip pain. Many of these patients seek medical attention only after they begin experiencing major difficulties in carrying out their daily routine even after injections or physical therapy for the pain in their hips. The coxa, commonly known as the hip joint, is the joint between the femur and the pelvis, and it plays an important role in supporting and dispersing our body weight when we are walking or in motion. However, damage to the coxa is not well-perceived by the affected individual, and it is difficult to distinguish it from common back pain. For this reason, early treatment is not sought by the affected individuals. There are various diseases associated with the coxa that arise from physical damage and aging, and one of the more common diseases is avascular necrosis of the femoral head. This is a disease that arises from suppressed blood flow to the femoral head, which in turn results in necrosis of the bone cells.Although the exac

Growing up as third child

By Jane Han From potty training to first day of school, there have been so many firsts for the twins over the past couple weeks that I almost forgot about Baby C. Not just saying ― really.Poor Baby C, this little one is sort of a mix between second and third child, thanks to her twin sisters. At just three months, the twins were already dressed up in cute little outfits, introduced to infant books and toys, entertained with bouncers, swings, mobiles and all sorts of cool baby stuff. They pretty much ruled the house.Baby C, now just short of three months, has it quite different. No fancy clothes, no picture snapping every other minute, no tiptoeing around the house when she sleeps. She’s pretty much left in peace in her crib with all kinds of hand-me-downs.I’d be lucky to hear her little whimper over all the noise produced by her two sisters.  Now do I feel bad for my newest born?Yes and no.Sure, Baby C isn’t always at the center of attention. She gets stuck with a bunch of used stuff and there isn’t as much excitement in seeing her coo for th

Plantar fasciitis may cause heel pain among middle-aged women

By Sim Dong-Sik A menopausal woman experiences many changes to her body. Among these, some experience a sudden pain in their heels.Especially, many women experience pain upon getting up from bed in the morning. Such pain can be serious enough for many to avoid daily activities. In this case, plantar fasciitis, or painful heel syndrome, should be suspected. The plantar fascia plays an important role in maintaining the arch of the sole of the foot via its cord-like structure, and provides elasticity to the foot.In other words, it performs as an insole, sustaining our body weight. If too much force is placed on the plantar fascia, swelling and inflammation can occur.Such symptoms are indicative of plantar fasciitis. This usually occurs among menopausal women, as hormonal changes cause a thinning of the fat layer of the sole.Plantar fasciitis can also be caused by excessive exercise or wearing high-heels, sandals or flip-flops frequently.Recently, there are growing numbers of younger patients who experience plantar fasciitis and muscle damage to the sole due to intense exercise.Intense

Eating vegetable helps fight off spring tiredness

By Lee Seung-hun Spring is the season when plants are invigorated, and much like trees shooting upwards, all things become energized and full of vitality. It is evident from the buds sprouting though the thawed ground and from the green leaves showing up at the end of tree branches. Our body reacts much the same way because circulation and general metabolism improve and we feel more reanimated and active. On the flipside, many of us frequently feel tired and especially sleepy in the afternoon even though we have had plenty of sleep the night before. When you feel this drowsy, no amount of coffee seems to help, and stretching the body and moving about only help temporarily.During the season, other than tiredness and drowsiness, you can also experience a lack of general appetite, indigestion and dizziness. Some even experience physiological changes that are similar to menopause, such as a rapid pulse and hot flashes. All such seasonal symptoms are what we generally call spring fever (or spring tiredness when you literally translate the Korean term for it).Spring fever is due to the sudd
