The foreign ministry said Wednesday a Korean citizen was kidnapped and has been held for 27 days by an armed group in Libya.
Armed civilian forces kidnapped three Filipinos and a Korean after breaking into a water plant in Jabal Hasouna, in the western region of the country, on July 6. Employees at the company reported the incident.
The group and its demands have not yet been identified. A ministry official said the group is likely to soon present its demand, based on a video clip that was released and posted on the Facebook account of a major news outlet in Libya, Wednesday.
“Please help me, president, our country South Korea,” a man who identifies himself as Korean says in the video. He is seen with the three others, who identify themselves as Filipino.
The kidnapped Korean, an employee of a local firm in his 60s, is seen to be in good condition.
The official said the ministry is working closely with Libyan authorities to free the captives.
