The performance is followed by the audience and celebrity guests rating it using a “like” button on a remote controller. The votes rank the show’s competitors and determine “winner(s)” for the week. Welcome to Korea’s most prevalent TV variety show genre, the “music competition variety show.”But the genre is testing viewers’ patience. There are just too many shows that are the same. Consequently, they lack a uniqueness to excite fans. Singer Baek Ye-rin of 15& has made a chart-topping comeback with her solo track “Bye Bye My Blue.” /Courtesy of JYP Entertainment By Lee Jin-aBaek Ye-rin of K-pop girl band 15& has swept domestic music charts with her new song “Bye Bye My Blue,” released Monday.The song ranked No.1 on Korea’s real-time music charts including Genie Music, Naver Music, Mnet.com, Bugs, Olleh Music and Soribada as of Wednesday.“I did not expect my song would take first place on these charts,” Baek said. “I feel really grateful and will do my best to continue performing good music for the audience.”The singer, 18, debuted in 2012 in a duo with Park Ji-min, who won SBS’s music audition show “K-pop Star Season 1.” She topped domestic music charts with her solo song “Across the Universe” in 2015.

The perfect height for women is 168 cm, a study finds. /Courtesy of Kelly Brook's FacebookBy Lee Jin-aResearchers say the perfect female body is 168 centimeters tall, according to U.K. media.The Sun reported Wednesday that researchers at the University of Texas found the world’s most perfect woman is 168 centimeters tall and has bust, waist and hip measurements of 99-63-91.The researchers said English model Kelly Brook is the best example. “This woman is completely natural and scientifically perfect,” they said.But Brook said she was often an object of ridicule because her body was considered “too plump” in the model industry.The study found that a body women consider “somewhat plump” is actually the one that is closest to perfection, and what scientists call a “harmonious body.”

The first episode topped the ratings among Monday-Tuesday dramas, attracting 12.9 percent of viewers, according to TV viewership research company Nielsen Korea. It was three times more than the rival KBS medical thriller “Beautiful Mind,” which also began on Monday in the same time slot with 4.1 percent. The 20-episode medical drama tells a coming-of-age story of Yoo Hye-jung, played by Park Shin-hye, a female high school bully who slowly changes with the support of her teacher Hong Ji-hong, played by Kim Rae-won. They meet again years later at a hospital as doctors and fall in love.
