A film depicting the painful testimonies of "comfort women," who were forced into sexual slavery at Japanese military brothels during World War II, will be released in the U.S., Canada and the U.K.

The film, titled “Spirits’ Homecoming,” will open in Los Angeles and Dallas on Mar 11, according to its distributor, WAW Pictures.

The film is the first to be released in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. through KORTV, a streaming channel that has a partnership with Apple TV and Amazon TV. KORTV is different from the usual video on demand (VOD) service because it offers home-screening at certain times like a theater.

“We have received plenty of requests to release the film overseas,” said Son Min-kyung, managing director of M-Line Distribution, the film’s overseas distributor. “We plan to expand overseas screenings of the film.”

The film has drawn about 2.7 million people since its release on Feb 24.
