Hyosung launches hyperscale AI data center in Seoul

Hyosung Group is expanding its push into artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure with the launch of a hyperscale data center in Seoul, marking its entry into Korea’s fast-growing data center market. The company announced Wednesday that Hyosung-STT GDC, a joint venture between Hyosung Heavy Industries and Singapore-based operator ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), opened STT Seoul 1, a 30-megawatt data center, in Geumcheon District, Seoul, the previous day. Designed to support cloud and AI workloads, the new facility combines Hyosung’s power infrastructure expertise with STT GDC's global standards in data center design, operation and service management. The facility is capable of accommodating increasingly power-intensive and high-density computing environments driven by generative AI applications. The company explained that one of the center's biggest advantages is its location in Seoul, where securing large-scale power capacity has become increasingly difficult due to energy regulations and grid constraints, providing low-latency connectivity to major business districts

POSCO invests $4.6 mil. in Brils to accelerate AI-driven factory push

POSCO Group has invested 7 billion won ($4.64 million) in Brils, an advanced robot solutions provider, marking a strategic step to accelerate its group-wide transition toward automation and artificial intelligence (AI)-driven manufacturing, the steelmaker said Tuesday. The investment was conducted through a combination of 5 billion won from POSCO Holdings’ strategic fund and 2 billion won from the firm’s in-house venture capital fund. The move reflects the group’s broader push to expand beyond conventional manufacturing into advanced automation systems, it said. POSCO aims to integrate its decades-long industrial expertise with Brils’ capabilities in robot design and control systems. The two sides plan to jointly develop automation operating systems, moving beyond simple robot manufacturing to build what the company calls an “intelligent factory.” An intelligent factory is a next-generation form of smart factories, incorporating collaborative systems among humans, AI and robots to enable autonomous and adaptive manufacturing processes. HLB Life Care opens research hub to explore therapeutic potential of muscle hormones

HLB Life Care has established the HLB Myokine Research Institute and formed a consortium with leading Korean specialists in endocrinology and metabolism to study myokines, protein hormones secreted by muscle tissue, the Korean health care and wellness company said Monday. The company signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding with the Gochang Food Industry Research Institute and the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology at the HLB Group headquarters in southern Seoul, Sunday, agreeing to jointly research materials that enhance myokine secretion and function. Myokines are protein hormones released during muscle contraction and are believed to help regulate metabolism and vascular function, reduce inflammation, improve insulin sensitivity and influence cognitive function. HLB Life Care said the research aims to identify myokine-based mechanisms underlying a range of diseases and to develop an integrated health care model spanning diagnosis, management and prevention. The initiative is led by professor Ahn Chul-woo of Gangnam Severance Hospital's Division of Endocrinology

Mercedes-Benz Korea seeks EV rebound with all-electric C-Class

Mercedes-Benz is signaling an aggressive push to reclaim its fading leadership in Korea's imported electric vehicle (EV) market by holding a world premiere for the all-electric C-Class sedan in Seoul. The German luxury carmaker recently unveiled the plan to hold the high-profile event on April 20 by inviting a group of some 80 overseas journalists to Korea’s capital city. Given that this is the first time that the carmaker has hosted a world premiere event in the country, it is clear that Korea’s strategic importance to the carmaker is growing rapidly, particularly its EV business. The upcoming launch of the all-electric C-Class sedan comes at a critical juncture for Mercedes-Benz Korea, as it is losing its once top-selling market spot to emerging rivals. The success of the new model will be crucial for the carmaker to regain its stature and jump back into position as the nation’s top-selling imported carmaker. According to data from the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA), Tesla ranked first in imported car sales in Korea between January and March of this

Tous Les Jours marks 10th anniversary in Mongolia, expands footprint in Indonesia

Tous les Jours, the bakery franchise operated by CJ Foodville, said Tuesday it has cumulatively sold more than 1.7 million cakes in Mongolia over the course of 10 years — a figure equivalent to roughly one cake purchase for every two people in the country. The Korean bakery chain entered Mongolia in May 2016, becoming the first domestic bakery brand to do so, through a master franchise agreement with local partner Artisan, then known as Mongbakery. Currently operating 24 stores, Tous les Jours has expanded beyond Ulaanbaatar into regional cities, with some locations renovated this quarter to reflect the brand's latest design identity. Demand peaks sharply during holiday seasons, when stores draw long queues of customers waiting to purchase cakes. CJ Foodville attributed its success in Mongolia to a three-part master franchise model focused on careful market research to identify strong local partners, a headquarters-led strategy for products and store operations and a standardized system for transferring that expertise to franchisees. In Indonesia, where Tous les Jours has operated sinc
