Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are seeking to strengthen their positions as global tech leaders by showcasing artificial intelligence (AI)-based innovative technologies and products at CES, the world’s largest tech show, according to the Korean tech companies, Monday.
This year's CES runs from Tuesday to Friday (local time). Samsung and LG have set goals to innovate consumer life in the increasingly fierce advanced technology competition at the Las Vegas-hosted event.
Samsung said it will present a future vision on how AI brings about innovation, themed “AI for All.” Samsung has set up the largest exhibition hall among the participating companies, with a total area of 3,934 square meters. Samsung is highlighting the connectivity of its SmartThings IoT platform, and introducing numerous new products and technologies based on AI.
Under the theme of "Reinvent your future," LG will also materialize its future vision of smart life solutions at CES. LG plans to showcase smart home technologies that adjust home environments to suit user's habits, health and emotions using advanced AI technology. It will also unveil AI Agent, a companion robot that assists with housework.

In the TV business, Samsung announced the AI screen era, unveiling its new AI processor for TV screens and the 2024 Neo QLED 8K TV. LG Electronics also unveiled the world's first wireless and transparent OLED TV LG Signature OLED T, saying it will redefine users’ screen experience.
At the Samsung First Look event held ahead of the opening of CES, Yong Seok-woo, president and head of the visual display business at Samsung Electronics, opened the door to the AI screen era by unveiling the new AI processor.
“Now that we are living through the 'hyperconnected' era, it’s no longer just about delivering quality visual experiences. Displays should enhance our lives both on and off the screen,” Yong said during the Samsung First Look event. "Samsung’s AI screens, powered by on-device AI technology, are designed to be the centerpiece of users’ homes, connecting all compatible devices to offer users a more flexible and diverse lifestyle.”
Samsung said NQ8 AI Gen3, an AI processor installed in the 2024 model of the Neo QLED 8K TV, boasts the best performance among Samsung TV processors. Thanks to this, the Neo QLED 8K TV supports the function of converting low-quality content to 8K quality. It also includes a function to reduce distortion in rapidly changing sports game screens. Samsung also unveiled the industry’s first transparent MicroLED and a wireless projector.
Samsung, which sees the SmartThings platform as the core of its device ecosystem, announced that it offers improved convenience through AI technology. The company will allow visitors to experience the upgraded connectivity of SmartThings at the exhibition hall, and also plans to introduce its collaboration with Tesla. The two companies recently agreed to collaborate on electric vehicles (EVs) and home energy management, making it possible to check the charging status of Tesla's EV batteries and the amount of power generated by solar panels on SmartThings.

LG aims to wow visitors with transparent OLED TV
LG will introduce the industry’s first transparent and wireless 4K OLED TV, the LG Signature OLED T, at this year’s CES. When the power is off, it functions like transparent glass, allowing users to see beyond the screen. By using wireless AV transmission and reception technology, LG eliminated all wires other than power.
The LG Signature OLED T supports black screen mode and transparent mode. In black screen mode, users can enjoy conventional TV content and in transparent mode they can enjoy 3D media art.

“The world's first wireless transparent OLED TV is a product that redefines the customer's screen experience,” said Park Hyoung-sei, head of the home entertainment division at LG Electronics. “With this product, we will provide a customer experience that has never existed before, beyond the limits of TV.”
To showcase the innovative products, LG used the Alpha 11 processor, an OLED-specific image and sound engine with enhanced AI capabilities. The Alpha 11 processor increases graphic performance by 70 percent and TV platform application processing speed by 30 percent through AI performance that is four times stronger than the previous generation, the company said.
