SK Innovation E&S completes hydrogen charging station at Incheon airport

SK Innovation E&S, a major energy solutions developer, has completed a liquefied hydrogen charging station at Incheon International Airport, the company said Thursday, calling it the world’s first airport-based facility designed to support carbon neutrality. Built on a 2,771-square-meter site inside the Terminal 2 parking garage, the station can supply up to 320 kilograms of liquefied hydrogen per hour, enough to fully charge as many as 240 hydrogen buses a day. The station is supplied by SK Innovation E&S’ liquefied hydrogen production plant in Incheon’s Seo District, about 25 kilometers from the airport. The plant produces 90 tons of liquefied hydrogen per day, or about 30,000 tons annually, and is operated with the company’s own logistics system. According to SK Innovation E&S, it is the world’s largest facility of its kind. The company expects the new station to accelerate the deployment of hydrogen-powered buses serving the country’s largest airport. Of the 68 shuttle buses operating 24 hours a day between the airport’s terminals, parking areas and cargo terminal, 36

Hankook Tire files lawsuit against US tariff

Hankook Tire, through its U.S. subsidiary, has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. government seeking a refund of tariffs already paid, challenging the legality of country-specific import taxes imposed by the Donald Trump administration. According to the U.S. Court of International Trade (USCIT) on Wednesday (local time), Hankook Tire & Technology's U.S. unit took legal action against U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on Monday, urging the court to rule that the tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) are unlawful. The company asked the court to stop CBP from imposing any additional tariffs on its imports and to order a full refund of duties it has already paid. Tariffs imposed by Trump under the IEEPA on Korea and other countries have previously been ruled illegal by lower courts and are now awaiting a final decision by the U.S. Supreme Court. This is not the first time that a Korean firm has filed a similar lawsuit. Last month, the U.S. subsidiary of Taihan Cable & Solution filed a lawsuit. In addition, U.S. subsidiaries of Hanwha Q Cells and Sa

Supreme Court rules Samsung should count bonus in calculating severance pay

The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that Samsung Electronics should count bonuses as part of an employee's average wage when using it as the basis to calculate severance pay. The ruling came almost seven years after 15 former Samsung employees sued the company, claiming it had paid them severance pay based on an average wage that excluded various bonuses they received for their performance. The plaintiffs demanded the company pay them the remainder of their severance pay based on an average wage that included the bonuses. The Supreme Court ruled that the "target incentives" — a bonus paid to employees based on the performance of each project and department they belong to — should count as pay for work, given the function, purpose and details of the assessment criteria for their payment. According to previous rulings in similar cases, the wage that counts toward the "average wage" used as the basis for severance pay is defined as payment in exchange for labor. An average wage is calculated by dividing the wages of the final three months before retirement by the total number of days in tha

Tesla annual profit plunges to lowest level since pandemic

NEW YORK — Tesla’s annual profit plunged to its lowest level since the pandemic five years ago as it lost the title of the world’s biggest electric vehicle maker to a Chinese rival and boycotts hammered sales. The EV company run by Elon Musk reported Wednesday that net income last year dropped 46 percent to $3.8 billion. It was the second year in a row of steep declines. The drop came despite the introduction of cheaper models and Musk's promise to remain laser-focused on the company after a foray into U.S politics. Still, Tesla investors have kept the faith in Musk. The stock is up 9 percent in the past year. Musk has been urging investors to focus less on car sales and more on what he considers a bright new future of robotaxis ferrying millions in cars without drivers, or even steering wheels, and robots watering plants and taking care of elderly parents. Investors and analysts expect to hear more from Musk on those plans in a conference call later Wednesday. For the fourth quarter of last year, Tesla's net income also plunged, down 61 percent to $840 million, or 24 cents. Exclud

LG affiliates increase presence in physical AI globally

LG Group affiliates are increasingly strengthening their presence in the global market for physical artificial intelligence (AI), as each company’s capabilities spanning robot components to intelligence are creating synergies that allow LG to offer integrated solutions. To take the lead in the physical AI race, companies not only need advanced physical AI capabilities but also strong hardware technologies and high-quality industrial data. LG affiliates’ high-quality industrial data accumulated across manufacturing plants, along with their experience in training foundation models, are viewed as key strengths drawing market attention for their application in physical AI.
