Samsung mulls 'regular part-time scheme'

Danal raises $5 mil. in US

By Kim Yoo-chulDanal, the nation’s top-tier provider for mobile commerce solutions, said Thursday its subsidiary in the United States has received a $5 million investment from Discover Financial Services (DFS).The investment will be used to boost the firm’s presence in the growing and lucrative carrier billing market. Company spokeswoman Shin Min-jeong said its U.S. affiliate ― BilltoMobile ― will jointly proceed with strategic projects led by the DFS in mobile commerce-related sectors.“The agreement will pave the way for us to improve our carrier billing business in the United States. Transactions using our solutions, there, rose by 340 percent during the first quarter of this year, year-on-year,” said the spokeswoman. LG to launch auto parts division

By Kim Yoo-chulLG Electronics plans to operate a car component business from July 1 in a bid to diversify the company’s portfolio, according to an industry source who is familar with the matter, Thursday. “LG Electronics will launch a new division that sells various car-related platforms and solutions to leading car manufacturers. The new division will go into operation from July 1,” he said.The company acquired a 100-percent stake in V-ENS, a former affiliate of LG CNS for 17 billion won on May 1. V-ENS is a specialist in designing and manufacturing car components. SK hynix unveils advanced DRAM chip

By Kim Yoo-chulSK hynix said Monday it has developed a highly-advanced mobile DRAM chip to be used in “smart” devices such as tablets and smartphones.In a statement, the SK Group affiliate said it developed a new Low Power DDR3 (LPDDR3) mobile memory chip with a storage size of 8-gigabit (Gb), using a finer 20-nanometer processing technology. It added that the new chip has a faster response time and consumes 10 percent less energy, meaning that the component is equipped with better functions but uses less power.The world’s second-biggest manufacturer of computer memory chips said it is the first chipmaker to develop the product. The chip is lighter and slimmer than the existing 4Gb and is also capable of powering data-intensive gadgets with relative processing ease.“The newly-developed chip is faster than existing LPDDR3 as the chip materializes 2133Mbps data transmitting speed that compares to 4Gb-based LPDDR3’s 1600Mbps.
