Well-done steak could raise your chances of Alzheimer’s disease, research has found.

Researchers from the Icahn School of Medicine in the U.S. fed mice a diet rich with glycotoxins ― the chemical formed when food is cooked until brown or black. These mice were more likely to develop dementia-like learning and movement problems than those on a low glycotoxins diet.

A recent research suggested cooking a slab of steak "well-done" may increase the risks of Alzheimer's due to increased amounts of glycotoxins.

The experiment also monitored for nine months the amount of glycotoxins in the blood of 93 New Yorkers aged over 60. This revealed those with higher levels experienced greater risk of death than those with lower levels.

One of the researchers, Michael Woodward, said although the discovery still required further study to generalize its conclusion, it did support the existing theory that highly fatty, fried or processed foods are related to increased risk of dementia, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
