Transgender school restroom ban passed

The Senate Education Committee in Kentucky has passed a bill that would forbid transgender students using school restrooms opposite to their biological sex.
The legislation failed to earn the seven votes required to pass the Senate Education Committee last week but the 8-1 vote on Monday sent the bill to the full Senate.
The controversy started at an unidentified high school in Louisville last year when a transgender student whose biological sex is male used a female restroom and locker room.
The school and the county allowed the student to use the restroom based on her gender identity but some students did not agree.
The legislation requires schools to “provide separate, private areas designated for use by students based on their biological sex.”
The Republican-led Senate is expected to approve the bill but its passage through the Democrat-controlled House remains uncertain.
