TV host Letterman to call it a day

American TV talk show king David Letterman will end his “Late Show with David Letterman” on May 20.
CBS and Letterman’s production company Worldwide Pants announced the date on Wednesday. The show has been running for 22 years on CBS and NBC.
By the time it closes, there will have been 6,028 episodes, making Letterman, 67, the “longest-tenured late night talk show host,” the Los Angeles Times said.
Stephen Colbert, host of Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report,” has been tapped as Letterman’s successor. Colbert’s show will end on Dec. 18.
CBS president and chief executive, Leslie Moonves, said in a statement that Letterman, who comes from Indianapolis, "has given to all of us a remarkable legacy of achievement and creative brilliance that will never be forgotten."
Letterman and his show have received 52 Emmy Award nominations.
During the Kennedy Center Honors in 2012, he was referred to as “one of the most influential personalities in the history of television, entertaining an entire generation of late-night viewers with his unconventional wit and charm.”
