A millionaire in China has built luxury flats in his hometown and offered them to villagers for free, Daily Mail reports.

Xiong Shuihua, 54, grew up in the wooden huts in Xiongkeng village in the city of Xinyu, southern China.

When he became a successful business tycoon, he decided to repay the villagers for the care he received as a child, by building flats and offering daily meals to elderly and low-income residents.

Xiong spent millions to knock down the wooden hunts and replaced them with luxury flats, housing 72 families so far. A further 18 families will be granted with new apartments.

“I earned more money than I knew what to do with, and I didn't want to forget my roots,” Xiong said.
