Men’s Health magazine has received a torrent of complaints over a “misogynistic” advertising tweet, a news report says.
The advertisement, tweeted Tuesday morning, shows a smiling blonde woman holding a “No.1” giant foam hand. The controversial heading on her left says, “How to Talk about Sports with Women.” The text reads, “She sees the game differently than you. Here’s how, and what to do about it,” clearly suggesting that men can manipulate the subject to seduce women.
The clickable ad contains a link to a relevant article that says most women “don’t care about sports stats but love story lines.”
Minutes after appearing, the advertisement generated angry protests, mainly from women.
Megan Greenwell said, “Hi @MensHealthMag, you don't know me, but I run @ESPNMag's annual analytics issue. Also, I have a vagina.”
A netizen named Hannah said, “Congratulations on being a misogynistic tone-deaf idiot who is completely ignorant of the fact some women like sports.”
Don Van Natta Jr., a male, told the magazine to cancel his subscription.
