Half of women have 'Plan B' partner in mind: survey

Half of all women keep a potential “fall-back” partner in mind in case their current relationship flames out, according to a survey conducted by the Daily Mail.

The poll surveyed 1,000 women and found that some 50 percent had a backup partner in mind. For some, it was a current friend, though other potential partners included ex-boyfriends, colleagues, or someone from the health club.

The fall-back guy is likely to be someone that the woman has known for some seven years, the survey found.

One in ten women believed that the man on the back burner had already confessed their love at some point. One in five thought their backup would “drop everything” to be with her.

Despite the potential pitfalls, half of the respondents said their current partner was aware of the “third party.”

A spokesman for online market research company OnePoll.com told Daily Mail: “For our research to establish that 50 percent of women in relationships have a 'Plan B' is a worrying sign.”

The spokesman added that social media makes it easier to keep in touch with old flames.
