Researchers have developed a self-destructing device that can melt phones and credit cards away on command when stolen, reported the Daily Mail Tuesday.

The specially developed circuits can dissolve on command. This technology can be used on mobile phones and credit cards so when stolen, they can be rendered useless with the touch of a button.

Researchers are also working on transient resistors and capacitors, even for military and medical applications.

“A military device could collect and send its data and then dissolve away, leaving no trace of an intelligence mission,” said Reza Montazami, an Iowa State University assistant professor in mechanical engineering.

“Or, a medical device could harmlessly melt away inside a person’s body once its job is done,” the researchers said.
