Japanese kids banned from using cellphones at night

About 13,000 elementary and junior high school students will be forced to hand their gadgets over to parents each evening in the city of Kariya, Japan, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.

A crackdown on cyberbullies will see Japanese children banned from using their cellphones at night.

Some 13,000 elementary and junior high school students in the city of Kariya will be forced to hand their gadgets over to parents at 9 p.m. each evening.

School officials, police and social workers hope the online curfew will stop 6-15-year-olds from getting sucked into cybercrime.

It's also aimed at curbing Web addiction.
