2 mil. masks, costumes confiscated in Italy

Italy is known throughout the world as the fashion center of the world and extraordinary things happen there.

One such occurrence has been the confiscation of over 2 million masks and costumes by the Italian police in fear of contamination that can cause physical harm to humans, the local media reported.

Under an operation codenamed “Safe Carnival,” police in the Italian capital of Rome rounded up over 2 million pieces of masks and apparels which were feared to be harmful to the human lungs.

Police in Rome said they have discovered a huge amount of carnival costumes in containers in the outskirts of the Italian capital and that four Chinese nationals are under investigation for their import.

The items have been turned over to environmental and health authorities to determine what harmful substances are contained in the seized items.

The Italian police have been conducting more than 150 sting operations and confiscated more than 3 million items dangerous items.

More than 66 suspects are currently undergoing interrogation concerning what are believed to be illegal imports.
