A Chinese man bought up all the odd-numbered seats at a cinema in Shanghai on Valentine’s Day screenings as a means of preventing lovers from cuddling up side-by-side while watching the movie, the Daily Mail reported Thursday.
The unnamed man set up a campaign on a crowdfunding site to buy every other seat at a Valentine’s night showing of a Beijing love story at a movie theatre in one of the shopping malls in Shanghai.
A group of internet users helped him to reserve seats so no two adjacent seats are available now.
At first, the man tried to buy all the tickets by himself but the theatre’s online booking system and the staff at the cinema refused his request.
The man said, “I also didn’t have enough money. I started a campaign on a crowdfunding site and people helped me to raise the money to carry out my special plan.”
The man, who broke up with his girlfriend last year, does not want to be stuck between snuggling couples on Friday night.
He added, “I hope all lovers understand this is just a small joke.”
