Japanese broadcaster criticized for fanning ‘wonjo gyoje’

Japan’s NHK was under fire for encouraging “wonjo gyoje” in which elderly adult men buy sex from girls.

According to J-Cast on Sept. 7, NHK aired a program on the illegal practice. The program caused a controversy as critics said it could fan “wonjo gyoje.”

The program made public the address of a “wonjo gyoje” Internet site, and detailed “wonjo gyoje” slang.

In the program, several women, who were allegedly involved in “wonjo gyeje,” introduced their experiences.

Viewers said they were displeased with the program broadcast in the morning, as it contained what they called “inappropriate content.”

A Japanese Internet user said, “It was like a program detailing know-how on ‘wonjo gyeje.’”
