3 Iranian footballers risk jail over kiss

Three Iranian soccer players are facing jail for kissing a woman fan in the Islamic state where physical contact between unrelated men and women is legally banned, an Iranian website reported on Monday.

Under Iran's Islamic Sharia law, imposed since the 1979 Islamic revolution, violators of the law can be sentenced to lashes, fines or imprisonment.

"The arrest warrants have been issued for the three because of their un-Islamic behavior," said the Rajanews website, quoting an unnamed source. It did not identify the three or the football team they played for.

The website said the three fell foul of the Islamic Republic's strict moral code at one of Iran's airports.

"Their coach is trying to prevent his players from being imprisoned," said the website. "But he has been told that the players should be responsible for their wrongdoing."

An Iranian actress was given a suspended sentence of 74 lashes in 2003 for kissing a film director at an awards ceremony.

이란에서 지난 1979년 이슬람 혁명 이래 시행되고 있는 이슬람 샤리아법에 따라, 위법자들은 태형, 벌금형, 징역형을 받을 수 있다.

'라자뉴스'는 문제가 된 선수들의 이름이나 소속팀을 밝히지 않은 채, 체포영장이 발부된 "해당 선수들의 코치가 이들의 수감을 막으려 애쓰고 있으나 선수들이 책임을 면할 수 없다는 통보를 받았다"고 전했다.

지난 2003년엔 한 이란 여배우가 시상식에서 영화감독에게 키스했다는 이유로 태형 74대의 집행유예 판결을 받기도 했었다.
