Pitcher Son Ju-young sidelined with elbow inflammation

Left-hander Son Ju-young, who started Korea's final game of the opening round at the World Baseball Classic (WBC) this week, will be out for 10 days with elbow inflammation, his club announced Wednesday.
The LG Twins said Son has been diagnosed with inflammation and swelling of his pronator in his left elbow. The announcement came two days after Son pitched just one inning in what ended up being a 7-2 victory over Australia in the teams' final Pool C game at Tokyo Dome.
Son tossed 27 pitches while working around a single and a walk in the scoreless first inning.
Son came back out for the second inning but soon stopped warming up before calling for a team trainer. Following a brief meeting on the mound, Son walked off the field for a sudden pitching change.
National team officials said at the time Son had felt some discomfort in his left elbow. The victory netted Korea a ticket to the quarterfinals in Miami, but Son did not join his teammates on their U.S.-bound flight and instead traveled home to undergo further tests.
Korea will now look to replace Son on its pitching staff before the quarterfinals scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday in Miami, or 7:30 a.m. Saturday in Seoul.
