The Korean Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (KAHPERD) announced Tuesday it will bring together international experts to explore how academic achievements in sports science are being applied to fields of play.

The KAHPERD said the 2025 International Sports Science Symposium will run from Friday to Saturday at Seoul Olympic Parktel in the capital city, under the theme, "Refining the Ecosystem of Kinesiology and Sports: From Academia to Professional Practice."

Keynote speakers on the opening day include Keio University professor Yoshimasa Suda, who will present on "The Role of University Sports in Shaping Holistic Student Development," and Wichita State University professor Nicole Rogers, who will discuss the impact of a community-based exercise program for older adults.

Dr. Tan Tien-chin from the National Taiwan Normal University in Taiwan will have a presentation titled "China's Elite Sport Policy: The Path to Olympic Glory," while Jatin Prafull Ambegaonkar, kinesiology professor at George Mason University, will give a talk on innovative dance education.

The list of academics scheduled to speak on Saturday includes Toru Kawai of Ritsumeikan University in Japan, Steriani Elavsky of the University of Ostrava in Czechia and Chung Jae-woo of Yonsei University in Seoul. They will cover, among other topics, innovation in sports science ecosystems and its application to athletic support.

"This international symposium will provide a platform where kinesiology and sports science will transcend academic discussions and will expand to practical applications," said KAHPERD President Choi Kwan-yong. "The participants will also discuss further development of sports science ecosystems where academia and sports will be organically linked."
