KOC renewed pact with USOC
The Korea Olympic Committee (KOC) renewed an agreement on sports exchanges with the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) Monday.
The KOC headed by Kim Jung-haeng had initially signed a bilateral agreement with the USOC, currently chaired by Lawrence F. Probst III, in 1983.
“Through this extension, the national Olympic committees of the two countries will extend their close partnership on exchanges of athletes, coaches and information on staff and management,” the KOC said in a statement. The two will also share expertise on sports facility management, staff training sports medicine and anti-doping programs.
Korea’s Olympic governing body will oversee the wide-range program to further acquire management knowhow for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games.
This move comes as a result of KOC President Kim’s proposal to USOC Secretary General Scott Blackmun to cooperate to ensure Korea’s successful hosting of the PyeongChang Olympic Games in 2018 when the two sides met at the Association of National Olympic Committee’s general assembly in Bangkok, Thailand on Nov. 7, 2014.
