Yun Sung-bin wins bronze in skeleton

Yun Sung-bin won a bronze medal at the skeleton men’s event at the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (FIBT) World Cup in Sochi, Russia, Monday.

The South Korean skeleton racer finished at 1:53.68 for third-place among 23 athletes, following his fourth-place finish last week.

Russia’s Alexander Tretiakov grabbed the gold medal at 1:52.40, followed by Latvia’s Martins Dukurs at 1:52.81.

Yun garnered global attention when he ranked fifth overall at the 2013-14 FIBT International Cup Tour. He won gold in the sixth round of the tour in Whisler Canada, in January 2014, becoming the first South Korean skeleton rider to win a medal in an international competition.

Sin Da-woon wins gold at short track speed skating

South Korea’s Sin Da-woon won the gold medal in the men’s 1,000 meter short track speed skating event at the World Cup in Erzurum, Turkey, Sunday.

Sin won the race, finishing at 1:25.311, followed by silver-medalist Viktor Ahn of Russia at 1:25.428. Patrick Duffy of Canada finished third at 1: 25.511.

This is Sin’s sixth win in his World Cup medal streak this season as he snatched a bronze medal at the 1,500 meter short track speed skating race, Saturday.

With four laps to the finish, Sin overtook Ahn and maintained his lead over the South Korean-born Russian short track speed skater.

Meanwhile, in the 5,000 meter men’s relay, South Korea’s team (Lee Han-bin, Kwak Yoon-ki, Sin Da-woon, Lee Jung-soo) grabbed the silver medal at 6:50.912 behind China, which won the gold 15 6:50.822. In the women’s 3,000 meter relay, Korea finished second at 4:13.406 behind China.

The South Korean team wrapped up this 2014-2015 World Cup with one gold medal, two silver medals and two bronze medals.
