Swansea bid for Ki Sung-yueng

Swansea City have made a 5 million pound ($7.84 million) bid for Celtic midfielder Ki Sung-yueng and are in talks with the defending Scottish Premier League champions, a British newspaper reported Monday (KST).

According to the Daily Mail, the club has been working hard during the summer transfer window to address its midfield needs after selling Joe Allen to Liverpool and Gylfi Sigurdsson, on loan with the Swans last season, choosing a permanent move to Tottenham Hotspur rather than South Wales.

The 23-year-old has been on the club’s radar after impressive performances at Celtic and at the just-ended London Summer Games, where South Korea claimed the bronze medal, the nation’s first-ever Olympic football medal.

Michael Laudrup’s side is the latest European side to join a list of suitors for Ki following the likes of Queens Park Rangers, Arsenal, Fulham and Atletico Madrid.

However, the Daily Mail reported that Celtic would not give agree to less than 8 million pounds for Ki, who has 15 months remaining on his contract.
