Korean tops junior taekwondo worlds

Korea won the overall men’s and women’s titles at the WTF World Junior Taekwondo Championships in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, Sunday.

In the men’s division, Korea grabbed four gold medals and three silver followed by Iran with two gold medals and as many silver, and Russia, which had one gold and two bronze medals.

On the women’s side, Korea won four gold medals, followed by Russia with three gold and one bronze. Turkey rounded out the top three after claiming two silver and two bronze.

The biennial five-day championships attracted a total of 753 athletes from 90 countries.

Korea’s Kim Yeong-seok, the gold medalist in the 55 kilograms was selected as the best male athlete, while compatriot Choi Byeol, the 44-kilogram champion, earned the honor in the women’s division.
