Korea‘s Yoo wins Kraft Nabisco in sudden-death playoff

Yoo Sun-young of South Korea made an 18-foot birdie putt in a sudden-death playoff with compatriot Kim In-kyung to win the LPGA Kraft Nabisco Championship on Monday (Korean time), the first women's major championship this year.

Both Yoo and Kim shot three-under-par 69s in the final round at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California, but Kim made a heartbreaking miss on the one-hole playoff, allowing Yoo to take the title.

Minutes earlier Yoo birdied the first playoff hole, Kim missed a one-foot putt on the same green.

Yoo's victory marked the first by a South Korean golfer to win the Kraft Nabisco since March 2004, when Grace Park claimed the championship.

Women's world number one Yani Tseng finished third at an eight-under-par 73.

Yoo celebrated her victory in the traditional way, leaping into Poppie's Pond.

The Kraft Nabisco Championship is one of the four major championships on the LPGA Tour. It was founded in 1972 and has been classified as a major since 1983. (Yonhap)
