Cha apologizes for supporting Park

Cha Bum-kun, an SBS football commentator and former Korea international, apologized Tuesday after fans criticized his comments supporting Arsenal forward Park Chu-young’s postponement of his military service.

On Monday, Cha wrote a long statement on his blog asking fans to be lenient with Park.

“Can we not be generous to Park Chu-young?” he wrote. “Somebody must have found a legitimate way (to avoid serving in the military). I have two sons so I fully understand the feelings of men having to serve in the military.”
