S. Korea makes last-ditch bid for World Cup

South Korea is making its last efforts, through the participation of high-ranking officials and sports stars, to win votes for the 2022 World Cup tournament bid on Thursday.

The nation plans to show that hosting the World Cup on the Korean Peninsula would help promote peace in the East Asian region.

Korean Prime Minister Kim Hwang-sik and other bid committee members left for Zurich, Switzerland, on Tuesday for the final presentation.

Kim is the only premier-level government official among the five competing nations — South Korea, Japan, the United States, Qatar, and Australia — poised to take the podium for a presentation of Korea’s strong will to host the football festival.
