KBO unveils list of AG baseballers
By Yoon Chul
The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) announced Monday the final 24 baseballers for the Asian Games.
Cleveland Indians outfielder Choo Shin-soo and Kim Tae-kyun of the Chiba Lotte Marines made the roster for Korea again, while KBO reigning lefty hurler Ryu Hyun-jin of the Hanwha Eagles will lead on the mound.
The organization’s technical committee headed by Kim In-sik picked the players, consisting of amateur Kim Myung-sung and 23 professionals, during a four-hour meeting.
There are 10 pitchers, two catchers, seven infielders and five outfielders _ only Choo and Kim ply their trade overseas.
Among them, 10 players haven’t completed their military service; fewer than the 14 at the Beijing Olympics.
If the team grabs gold in the Asian Games the 10 will get an exemption from compulsory military service; in the Olympics, any medal won offers the same privilege.
