Kim Yu-na to skate only at World Championships
Kim will skip Grand Prix for this season

Figure queen Kim Yu-na said Monday she will only appear at the World Championships while staying away from the Grand Prix events for this season.
“I will skip the Grand Prix Events and I will focus on the other event (World Championships),” Kim said upon arrival at Incheon International Airport.
As of her announcement the fans won’t see her performance in the Grand Prix competition of 2010-2011 season, starting from Oct. 22 in Japan. Instead they can see the world No.1 skater’s dance on March 19 in the World Championships.
The 19-year-old, who returned home from Canada to prepare for an ice show, indicated she would not attend the Asian Games in Kazakhstan in February.
She also said that she hasn’t yet set a new program.
“I didn’t start training yet. After the ice show I’ll make up a schedule with the coaching staff and select the programs,”
“First of all I need to recover my normal condition in full though now I am in good shape,” Kim said.
The world record holder was expected to shine again at the World Championships in March in Italy, only to finish second.
Kim stumbled few times in the short program and ranked seventh — her lowest placement at an ISU event.
The Vancouver Olympic gold medalist also revealed that she would come up with a fresh type of performance to new music.
“I have yet to use many different types of music. I want to perform to a tango or some Latin music,” she said.
Kim, who already performed an ice show in May, will perform four times in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province from Friday to Sunday.
For this show, Kim launched a new soundtrack “Bulletproof,” — much more up-tempo compared with material previously used to accompany skaters.
In the ice show, Kim’s hero and former figure queen, Michelle Kwan, Torino Olympic silver medalist Sasha Cohen, Stephane Lambiel who came fourth at the Vancouver Olympics among others will appear with Kim.
Rising star Kwak Min-jung and next generation skater Kim Hae-jin will also perform in the show.
김연아 내년 세계선수권대회에 전념
피겨 여왕 김연아(19)는 월요일오는 10월부터 시작하는 이번 시즌 그랑프리 시리즈는 건너 뛰고 내년에 열리는 세계선수권대회를 준비할 것 이라고 밝혔다.
아이스쇼에 참가하기 위해 인천공항을 통해 19일 오전 입국한 김 선수는 새 시즌 프로그램에 대해서는 "아직 준비를 시작하지 않았는데 세계선수권대회에 초점을 맞춰서 진행할 것"이라며" 아이스쇼를 끝내고 캐나다 토론토로 돌아가면 코치진과 함께 의견을 조율해서 마련할 생각이다"고 밝혔다.
2009 세계선수권 챔피언인 김 선수는 동계올림픽에 이어 수 주 만에 열린 금년 세계선수권대회에는 불참했다.
김연아는 또 "동계 아시안 게임에도 참가하지 않을 것"이라고 덧붙였다.
"아직 해보지 않은 음악 장르가 많다"라며 "탱고 같은 스페인 풍의 음악을 해보고 싶다"고 설명했다.
5월 치른 올해 첫 아이스쇼에서 2010 밴쿠버 동계올림픽 금메달을 안겼던 본드걸 연기와 함께 지난 시즌 갈라 프로그램 '타이스의 명상곡'을 선보였던 김연아는 이번에는 '내일의 꿈'을 주제로 미래의 성취를 연기할 계획이다.
영국 팝그룹 라루의 '블릿프루프(Bulletproof)'에 맞춰 힙합 스타일의 새 갈라 프로그램도 공개할 예정이다.
김연아는 "오늘 저녁부터 공연 준비에 들어갈 것 같다"며 "본격적인 리허설은 공연에 출연하는 모든 선수들이 입국하고 나서 진행될 것"이라고 말했다.
이번 아이스쇼는 7월 23일 오후 8시와 24일 오후 5시, 25일 오후 2시와 6시 등 4회에 걸쳐 펼쳐진다.
아이스쇼에는 김연아와 미셸 콴을 비롯해 2006년 토리노 동계올림픽 은메달리스트 사샤 코헨(미국), 2010 밴쿠버 동계올림픽 남자 싱글 4위 스테판 랑비엘(스위스), 2007 세계선수권대회 남자 싱글 금메달리스트 브리앙 주베르(프랑스) 등이 출연할 예정이다
