Argentina downs Nigeria 1-0 in Group B

Argentina, one of the top contenders in the 2010 World Cup, edged Nigeria 1-0 in their Group B match in Johannesburg.

Gabriel Heinze gave Argentina the winning goal six minutes into the game at Ellis Park Stadium.

Leonel Messi, Argentina's star winger, shined throughout the game as he romped around the pitch and made many critical moments for Nigerian goalie Vincent Eneyeama. Forward Gonzalo Higuain also produced several near-miss chances.

Seeded together in Group B, South Korea beat Greece 2-0 in their group opener in Port Elizabeth. Along with the Asian nation, Argentina secured three points, while Nigeria and Greece scored no points after their losses.
