Kim Yu-na to continue her career
Olympic figure skating gold medalist Kim Yu-na of Korea said Monday that she is preparing to train in Canada, refuting rumors that she might retire.
"I'm not saying the word 'retirement.' I am going back to Toronto, my training site. I will keep skating," the 19-year-old said at Incheon International Airport prior to her departure for the Canadian city, wrapping up her nearly two-month stay in Seoul.
"I will train as I have done for years. I will meet with my coaches to set training schedules and select programs."
She has evaded questions about retirement after winning the gold medal at the Vancouver Winter Olympics in February. Her coach, Brian Orser, hopes Kim will continue her career.
However, she noted that she is not sure she will take part in this year's competitions until she is confident about her condition and athleticism.
"The decision will be made when I get ready and I'm in good form to compete."
The 2010 season is scheduled to begin in October with its opener to be the Grand Prix Series event in Japan.
Kim said she is happy to be on the ice.
"I have reached the highest point as a figure skater. Now I'm sure that I won't feel pressure or stress in skating," she said.
