Shin Ji-yai got off to a good start in the first round of the Hana Bank-Kolon Championship Friday.
Shin, 21, fired a bogey-free five-under 67 at Sky 72 Golf Club in Incheon to finish in a six-way tie for third, including compatriots Kim Bo-kyung and Kang Ji-min.
Anna Grzebien and Meaghan Francella shared the top of the leaderboard after each shot six-under.
"I am satisfied with finishing the round without a bogey,'' said Shin, who won the Masters GC Ladies of the JLPGA Tour last week.
"I want to continue the strong shots I had today in the remaining rounds.''
Meanwhile, world No. 1 Lorena Ochoa failed to continue her winning ways from her previous tournament, the Navistar LPGA Classic, three weeks ago and struggled with a round of even par 72 to close out the round in a tie for 45th with Paula Creamer.
Choi Na-yeon tied for ninth at four-under and Han Hee-won and Kim Song-hee both had rounds of 69.
Seo Hee-kyung and Kim Ha-neul from the KLPGA carded a two-under 70.
