South Korean international Lee Chung-yong notched his first assist for Bolton as the Wanderers beat West Ham United 3-1 in extra time to advance to the fourth round of the Carling Cup.
Lee crossed the ball to much-maligned Swedish footballer Johan Elmander and the striker scored his long-awaited first goal of the season in the 118th minute to solidify the victory.
The 21-year-old midfielder from Seoul came into the game in the 68th minute, replacing Ricardo Gardner.
Bolton fell behind on a goal by West Ham's Herita Ilunga in the 59th minute. Kevin Davies' header in the 86th minute made it 1-1, sending the teams to extra time. Gary Cahill put the Wanderers ahead for good in the 96th minute and Elmander then added some insurance.
The win provides a confidence boost for a team that has just one win and one draw in five premiership games this season, and that has felt the wrath of booing fans at its home ground.
It was Lee's third appearance with Bolton since officially transferring from FC Seoul on Aug. 14. He made his league debut as a substitute in a match against Sunderland the following day.
