Veteran forward Choo Seung-gyun saved the KCC Egis from its eighth consecutive defeat Saturday.
At home, the Egis edged the Dongbu Promy ― ranked second ― 87-76 in the Korean Basketball League (KBL).
Thirty-five year-old Choo led his team scoring 35 points including five three pointers, a Korean record this year.
Rookie guard Kang Byung-hyun, who was traded from the ET Land BlackSlamer, also helped, adding 15 points with three three-pointers.
As the former tallest team lost Seo Jang-hoon and Ha Seung-jin to trade and injury, it changed its emphasis from height to speed.
``I'm happy and feel hope on account of my team's active performance,'' Egis manager Huh Jae said after his side rebounded from a deep swamp.
The Egis, with a 10-14 record, could trail the eighth placed SK Knight by 0.5 game, while the Saturday match's loser, Promy, is still second, trailing the top spot by 0.5 game with a 15-9 record.
In Ulsan, the Samsung Thunders notched their seven straight victories to beat the top ranked Mobis 73-65.
Third place KT&G Kites also beat the LG Sakers 72-66 at home.
Kites guard Joo hee-jung and forward Yang Hee-jong led their team's victory by producing eight points with 14 assists and 16 points and seven rebounds, respectively, with three blocked shots.
