Park Ji-sung to Have Knee Operation in US

Park Ji-sung, the Korean midfielder of the British football club Manchester United, will undergo an operation on his troublesome knee in the United States, according to the football club.

The leading club in the English Premier League posted on its official Website www.manutd.com that its manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed the surgery plan, Friday.

``Park has travelled to the States to visit world renowned knee specialist Dr Richard Steadman whose past patients include Ruud van Nistelrooy and Michael Owen,’’ it said.

The club’s chief executive David Gill, who flew to Seoul to discuss a friendly match with FC Seoul scheduled for July, said in a news conference Friday that Park has been in the United States to get his knee checked up on.

According to Gill, Park is staying at a hospital in the United States, but they are not sure yet how long it will take for the midfielder to fully recover from the injury.

However, he said reports that it would take a year for him to return to the club are exaggerated.

Park has not played since he scored and injured his right knee in a Premier League match against Blackburn Rovers at Old Trafford on March 31.

Park, who made great contribution when Korean national team reached the semifinals of the 2002 World Cup, signed with the renowned English football club from PSV Eindhoven of the Netherlands in 2005.
