The 25th Gwangju World Kimchi Festival will kick off this Thursday through Sunday in Gwangju offering different programs related to the traditional Korean food at Kimchi Town.

The highlight of the festival is a kimchi contest where the winner will receive a presidential prize and a title of kimchi “master.” Twenty teams that made it through the preliminary will present their entries at the opening ceremony on Thursday, and the contestants' foods will be displayed throughout the festival.

From Friday to Saturday, world's master chefs will come to the festival to learn how to make kimchi and apply the Korean fermented food to their own dishes.

An exhibition will show various kimchi types from all across the Korean Peninsula, including those from North Korea.

Visitors can also make their own kimchi, and the organizing committee will prepare a delivery service with cool bags to send their fresh handmade kimchi to their homes. They can also purchase quality kimchi ingredients such as salt and red pepper powder.
