Typhoon on track to hit west flank of Korea

A severe tropical storm packing strong winds is expected to slam ashore on Korea's southwest coast near Mokpo and pass northwest of Chinhae Monday.
The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) issued the alert Friday for the storm known as Prapiroon.
On Friday morning, the seventh typhoon this season developed 740 kilometers south-south-east of the coast and was moving north. It is expected to approach within 70 kilometers of the southern side of Jeju Island and move further north to Seosan on the western flank of the Korean Peninsula.
The weather office is closely monitoring the typhoon's movement to prepare for flooding and wind damage.
The name of the typhoon is a rain god in Thai.
