Seoul will open Nodeul Island by September 2019.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government said it picked private city planning laboratory Urban Transformer to operate and maintain the river island.
The private lab will operate Nodeul Island as a music-based cultural complex for three years until May 2021.
“We will begin to promote the island and launch bids for rental space starting next month. Currently, Nodeul Island is under construction. We could hold various events to promote the island,” an Urban Transformer official said.
The island was made artificially to support the Hangang Bridge constructed in 1917.
For many years, various plans have been suggested for use of the island.
In 2005, the city government planned to turn the island into a cultural village. However, the plan failed due to the high cost.
Another plan then emerged to make the island an art complex, but this also failed.
