Chuseok a 'golden period' to find new job

By Park Si-soo

The 10-day Chuseok holiday is certainly a big strain on many companies, big and small. They fear the unprecedented long vacation will undercut their sales and profits significantly.

And it seems there is another risk that could loom after Chuseok: a brain drain.

A survey showed 80 percent of people dissatisfied with their job would spend the holiday preparing or hunting for a new one -- exploring recruiting websites, updating resumes/CVs or preparing for a license or other test.

Job Korea, a recruiting website, surveyed 321 salaried workers looking for a new job and 815 unemployed job hunters.

Seventy-five percent of the workers said they would explore recruiting websites during the holiday, while 59 percent would write or update their resumes. Eighteen percent would spend Chuseok preparing for a license exam or other tests that would put them in a good position to land a better job.

Nearly half said they would skip family gatherings to concentrate on the preparation.
