Indian textbooks will soon contain more Korean history related to the subcontinent.

The new information will feature historical exchanges between the two nations. This will include the marriage of Kim Suro, the king of Gaya, and Heo Hwang-ok, a princess from India, and the Wang ocheonchukguk jeon, a travelogue by Buddhist monk Hyecho, who traveled from Korea to India in the seventh century.

India plans to revise its textbooks within three years after confirming new guidelines.

“India also plans to include the contents of the oldest metal type textbook ‘Jikji’ and Tagore's poem ‘Lamp of the East’ in the 10th grade political science textbook of India no later than 2020,” a Ministry of Education official told Yonhap News Agency.

The textbook additions come after the Academy of Korean Studies signed an agreement to deepen cooperation with India’s state textbook publisher, the National Council of Educational Research and Training, in New Delhi on Thursday.
