Game changer

University students are advised to take advantage of the many upcoming scholarship opportunities offered by a range of public and private scholarship foundations.

The Korea Student Aid Foundation is offering the “Hope Dream Scholarship” and the “Future Dream Scholarship,” for students from low income families who are in their junior and senior year of college. Application deadlines are Sep. 22 and Oct.31 respectively (www.kosaf.go.kr).

Another available in the second half of the year is offered by the Altwell Mincho Scholarship Foundation. Those in their first year in college and have an average grade of A may apply.

Applications will be received during September. (www.mincho.or.kr)

Other scholarships available early next year are those from the Mirae Asset Park Hyeon Joo Foundation (foundation.miraeasset.com), Korea Scholarship Foundation for Future Leaders (www.kosffl.or.kr), and the STX Foundation (www.stxfoundation.or.kr).

Private companies also offering scholarships for university students include G Market and E-mart.

G Market will hold an event to provide scholarship and assistance to those paying back student loans. Until February 29, 2012, the company will provide 200,000 won per person to 100 students every month. Those eligible must have taken out a loan from the Korea Student Aid Foundation.

E-mart will pay school expenses for those under financial difficulties. A total of 40 million won will be provided to 20 students. Additional opportunities include part-time jobs for 30 students at E-mart along with scholarships worth 2 million won each.
