KU Launches Humanity Programs

Korea University (KU) has started a humanity project with its new volunteer group to care for people in need. Under the project, the university has launched a volunteer group, devoted to social services, ``KU Social Service Corps'' on December 23 and carried out a series of service activities for eight days.
Consisting of the school president Lee Ki-su, facult members, students and other employees, the volunteer group seeks to set a good example as an academic institute which has responsibilities to contribute to society and humanity.
On the first day, the volunteers participated in a `cap-knitting' program which was promoted by an international children's rights organization to save newborns suffering from hypothermic shock in African countries. The following day, the group visited an orphanage, old people's home, low-income families and a home for the disabled in Mokpo to serve meals, give briquettes, help the disabled, and other activities.
With its good-will project, KU will encourage more students to join in activities for humanity by setting up various curricula involving volunteer activities.
KU will also send voluntary students overseas where many people need help from non-government organizations.
