Lee to preside over meeting on plans to promote AI chips

President Lee Jae Myung is set to preside over a meeting on Wednesday with business executives and experts to discuss plans to promote the semiconductor industry that produces high-performance chips for powering artificial intelligence (AI), officials said.
Lee will preside over the meeting with senior executives from Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, government officials and experts from related fields to craft a comprehensive strategy as global competition intensifies to secure leadership in AI-related technologies, according to the presidential office.
"Global AI competition has evolved into a battle for technological supremacy centered on semiconductors," the office said in a release. "In this context, President Lee will personally preside over the event to mobilize national capabilities to foster the semiconductor industry."
Industry Minister Kim Jung-kwan will present an integrated government road map for the semiconductor sector, followed by debate sessions among participants.
The strategy will include detailed plans to strengthen Korea's manufacturing capacity in both memory and foundry segments, expand the nation's footprint in chip design, and accelerate development of next-generation semiconductors optimized for AI models.
