Ruling party leader Han Dong-hoon suggested Tuesday that his party push for its own bill calling for a special counsel to investigate whether President Yoon Suk Yeol committed insurrection and other violations during his short-lived declaration of martial law last week.
Han of the ruling People Power Party made the remark during a closed-door general meeting of the party's lawmakers at the National Assembly, according to multiple officials who attended the meeting.
On Monday, the main opposition Democratic Party of Korea proposed a special counsel bill on Yoon's martial law declaration, accusing him of insurrection.
The DPK plans to put the bill to a vote during a plenary session on Saturday, along with a motion to impeach Yoon. (Yonhap)
