A woman allegedly tried to murder her husband because she was having an affair with another man, TV viewers have heard.

Current affairs program “Real Story Eye,” which airs on MBC Monday nights, highlighted the story earlier this month.

The program said the accusation emerged after the woman’s husband, surnamed Seo, was rushed to hospital again in 2014.

Doctors said a bottle of barley tea that the woman, surnamed Lee, made for Seo contained sodium hydroxide, or caustic soda.

Policefirst believed it was a deliberate act to claim on the 250 million won life insurance policy Lee took out on her husband.

But as the investigation proceeded, it was suspected she tried to kill Seo because she was having an affair with a man who worked at a bar, the TV program said.

According to Lee’s friend, Lee first met the man, who was six years her younger, at a bar and started having the affair.

The program said Lee spent millions of won, including an allowance of a million won a month, on the man and promised him a car.

Lee’s friend told the program Lee loved the man.

Lee was indicted on Nov. 2 last year for trying to murder Seo and jailed for four years.

But she claimed she was innocent and filed an appeal.

The Daejeon High Court dismissed the appeal on Nov. 20 this year, saying “despite the gravity of the crime, the defendant offers no contrition for her crime, denying it.”
