Yoochun of the K-pop boy band JYJ will get military training from Aug. 27 as part of his mandatory military service, his agency, C-JeS Entertainment, said Monday.

He will receive weeks-long military training before serving as a public service worker instead of an active soldier.

Details of his enlistment have yet to be revealed.

Since making his debut as a member of five-member idol group TVXQ in 2004, the singer-actor, 28, has become one of the most popular hallyu stars.

Last weekend, he held a fan meeting at Korea University, Seoul, where he greeted about 8,000 fans from around the world.

“I am so happy to show you who I am,” he said before wrapping up the meeting. “I always appreciate your support.”

Yoochun, whose real name is Park Yoo-chun, has also had success as an actor, appearing in many hit dramas, including “Rooftop Prince” in 2012 and “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” in 2010.

He recently appeared in the drama “The Girl Who Sees Smells,” and will hold a fan meeting in Japan next month.

His acting skills were recognized on Tuesday when he earned the Rookie Actor Award at the 51st PaekSang Arts Awards for his first movie “Sea Fog.”

Another group member, Jaejoong, joined the Army in March.
